　　古往今来，人类逐水而居，文明伴水而生。

　　Since ancient times, human beings have always preferred to live close to water bodies, and civilizations have taken shape near water bodies.

　　湿地对人类和自然至关重要，这是因为湿地生态系统的内在价值以及其所提供的惠益和服务，包括在环境、气候、生态、社会、经济、科学、教育、文化、娱乐和审美方面对可持续发展和人类福祉的贡献。

　　These lands are critical to people and nature, given the intrinsic value of these ecosystems, and their benefits and services, including their environmental, climate, ecological, social, economic, scientific, educational, cultural, recreational and aesthetic contributions to sustainable development and human wellbeing.

　　联合国大会宣布将每年2月2日设立为世界湿地日，以提高对扭转湿地加速丧失的紧迫性的认识，促进湿地的保护和恢复。

　　The UN General Assembly proclaimed 2 February as World Wetlands Day to raise awareness of the urgency of reversing the accelerating loss of wetlands and to promote their conservation and restoration.

重要讲话

　　1. 要深入贯彻新时代中国特色社会主义生态文明思想，坚持以人民为中心，牢固树立和践行绿水青山就是金山银山的理念，把建设美丽中国摆在强国建设、民族复兴的突出位置，推动城乡人居环境明显改善、美丽中国建设取得显著成效，以高品质生态环境支撑高质量发展。

　　We should thoroughly implement the thought on eco-civilization of socialism with Chinese characteristics for a new era, adhere to a people-centered approach, and uphold and act on the idea that lucid waters and lush mountains are invaluable assets. In our efforts to build a great country and advance national rejuvenation, we will prioritize the Beautiful China initiative and work for substantial improvements in urban and rural living environments. This will enable us to support high-quality development with a high-quality environment.

　　2. 要加大生态系统保护力度。加快建设以国家公园为主体、以自然保护区为基础、以各类自然公园补充的自然保护地体系，把有代表性的自然生态系统和珍稀物种栖息地保护起来。

　　We must intensify efforts to protect the ecosystems. We will move faster to develop a protected areas system with national parks as the mainstay, supported by nature reserves, and supplemented by natural parks. Doing so will help protect typical natural ecosystems and the habitats of rare species.

　　3. 中国积极推进生态文明建设和生物多样性保护，不断强化生物多样性主流化，实施生态保护红线制度，建立以国家公园为主体的自然保护地体系，实施生物多样性保护重大工程，实施最严格执法监管，一大批珍稀濒危物种得到有效保护，生态系统多样性、稳定性和可持续性不断增强，走出了一条中国特色的生物多样性保护之路。

　　China has made considerable efforts to protect biodiversity and the eco-environment. We have consistently strengthened biodiversity mainstreaming, applied a system of ecological conservation red lines, established a system of protected areas with national parks as the mainstay, carried out major biodiversity protection projects, and conducted the most stringent law enforcement and supervision. Many rare and endangered species have been placed under effective protection, and the diversity, stability and sustainability of the ecosystem have continued to improve. We have found a path of biodiversity protection with Chinese characteristics.

　　4. 未来，中国将持续加强生态文明建设，站在人与自然和谐共生的高度谋划发展，响应联合国生态系统恢复十年行动计划，实施一大批生物多样性保护修复重大工程，深化国际交流合作，研究支持举办生物多样性国际论坛，依托“一带一路”绿色发展国际联盟，发挥好昆明生物多样性基金作用，向发展中国家提供力所能及的支持和帮助，推动全球生物多样性治理迈上新台阶。

　　Going forward, China will continue to advance its eco-civilization, and plan national development in the context of harmonious coexistence between humanity and nature. We will respond to the Action Plan for the UN Decade on Ecosystem Restoration, and launch a wide range of key projects on biodiversity protection and restoration. We will expand international exchanges and cooperation and support international forums on biodiversity. To elevate global biodiversity governance to new heights, we will do our best to provide support and assistance to fellow developing countries through the Kunming Biodiversity Fund with the support of the Belt and Road Initiative International Green Development Coalition.
